Becoming a Firefighter

Like many Minnesota fire departments, the Lakeville Fire Department is comprised of paid-per-call firefighters. Each firefighter, after being accepted, must complete extensive training before becoming a full member.

2018 Recruitment Timeline

  1. Informational meeting: Tuesday, May 15, 7-8 p.m. at Fire Station 1.
  2. Written test (30 minutes): Tuesday, June 12, 10 a.m. or 6:30 p.m. at Fire Station 1.
  3. Physical agility test: Saturday, June 30, 9 a.m.-noon at Fire Station 1 - practice walk-through and physical agility test (wear comfortable clothing). If you pass, the next process will be an interview.
  4. Interviews (30 minutes): Mid-July (after Pan-O-Prog), date TBD.
  5. Background checks processed: TBD
  6. Medical assessments: Monday, July 23 starting at 7:30 a.m.
  7. Appointment: Effective Tuesday, August 14 (contingent upon successful completion of a medical assessment and background check).
  8. Orientation: August 16, 23 & 30 (tentative).

Probationary Period

Candidates who meet the requirements in the document below are taken on as probationary firefighters. During the 2-year probationary period, firefighters undergo a regimen of training and testing before becoming a full member.
