The Minnesota Highway Safety & Research Center conducts driver safety classes at the Heritage Center. Drivers 55+ may be eligible for a 10% discount on their auto insurance. An 8-hour course is initially required, followed by a 4-hour refresher class every three years. Register online at webtrac.lakeville.gov, then select "Active Adults, then "Classes & Events", or call 1-888-234-1294, and tell them you would like a class in Lakeville.

Around the country, seniors fall prey to scams that cost them thousands of dollars. Lakeville Police Lt. Jim Puncochar will be presenting on several topics regarding senior safety and scams. Topics include calling 911, home security, drug disposal and scams targeting seniors. Lt. Puncochar oversees the Investigations Division at the police department. He has a passion for educating seniors so they do not become victims of scams. NOTE – this is the same popular presentation that was given in February.

Start your touring at the Basilica of St. Mary which celebrated its first mass in 1914. This church is an excellent example of French architecture. Next tour the Westminster Presbyterian Church which was built in 1897 and recently completed a $3.5 million renovation. Following the tours, we will have lunch at the Hen House Eatery (cup of soup, sandwich, beverage and a cookie).

Mobile Menders, a volunteer group that provides free mending services, is at the Heritage Center every third Thursday of the month. Missing a button? Rip in a pocket? Need a pair of pants hemmed? They can take care of it. You can bring up to three clean items that need mending to the Heritage Center. All services are provided free of charge.
