Join researchers from the North Central Bird Observatory for an up-close and personal look at local and migrant wild birds. In this ongoing research project, the public will observe the capture of birds using mist nets and the collection of data including placing identifying bands on the birds. Birds are then released back into the wild. It’s a great way for families to learn about the science of bird banding. Event will take place rain or shine.

This class uses age-appropriate hoops (3-7 feet high) and smaller basketballs to teach fundamental skills and age-appropriate rules. Topics include dribbling, shooting, defending, passing and more.
For ages 2-4
RevSports Basketball is a fundamental skills program including focus on ball handling, shooting, passing, rebounding, and defending lay-ups. Small group sizes are used for a more fun and active environment. Class begins with a warm-up, followed by a fun active game, and always ends with an age-appropriate scrimmage. All equipment provided. This class will be offered in a socially distant way for the current COVID-19 environment including limited class size and adjusted activities.
For ages 2-4
This class is offered as T-ball or Coach Pitch, and teaches fundamental skills using age-appropriate game-like activities. Topics include fielding grounders, batting, throwing, catching, base running and more.

Lakeville Environmental Resources staff will teach you to identify the songs and looks of different frog species. Ann Messerschmidt, Lakeville’s Environmental Resources Specialist, will lead this walk at one of Lakeville’s most scenic natural parks, pointing out the wetlands, prairie, wildlife and other items of interest. Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable shoes and bring binoculars. The casual walk will be approximately one mile on a grass and dirt trail. Expect uneven ground and small hills. Meet at the shelter off of the lower parking lot. If you are interested in carpooling, indicate this on the sign-up sheet (vaccinated carpoolers recommended). Carpoolers would meet at the Heritage Center at 8:30 a.m. Sign up at the Heritage Center or call 952-985-4620.
