Prepare now for winter and snowplowing

Here are some things you can take care of on your property now and some reminders before the snow flies and snowplowing begins.

Mailbox Health Checkup
Inspect your mailbox and post to make sure they are ready to survive another Minnesota winter. Is it secure? Does it lean or extend into the street? Does it have cracks or is it rotting? Is it stable? Will it withstand the pressure of snow as it is plowed to the side of the street? It is each mailbox owner’s responsibility to remove excess snow in front of the mailbox to allow for mail delivery.

Garbage Bin Placement
Keep garbage and recycling bins off the road and safely away from snowplows. They should be placed on the end of your driveway but not in the street, which is a hazard to the bins and to snowplows.

Mobile Basketball Hoops
Mobile basketball hoops should be moved away from the street and be kept out of the right-of-way.

Stakes and Flags
If you are concerned about sod damage, we encourage you to locate the back of the curb along your property line with visible stakes or flags.
