  1. Family Raku Pottery: Hand-built Ceramic Patio Lantern

    For ages 6+

    This is a great way for parents, grandparents or caregivers to discover the outdoor firing process of Raku-fired ceramics. Fee covers the materials for one project for you and your child to make together (optional $15 fee for each additional project). We will provide hot dogs and s’mores for the campfire during the firing. Bring your own pop or water.

    Demonstrations will cover hand-building and basic wheel-throwing techniques for beginners, as well as more advanced concepts for intermediate students. Students work at their own pace with both individualized and group instruction. Bring an old towel.

    It takes a lot of water, energy and transportation to get food to our plates, yet we trash 40 percent of the food in the U.S. Food is the single largest component of trash in Minnesota. In Dakota County, household trash usually ends up in a landfill where the food rots and produces methane, a greenhouse gas more than 20 times more powerful than carbon dioxide. Learn how to prevent food waste and save money. Presented in collaboration with Dakota County Environmental Resources Department and Heritage Library.
